It weighs 300 kilograms only, the Pipistrel Alpha Electro is an ultra-light aircraft and it is electric. It can fly for one hour, can carry two passengers and can cover 160 kilometres for an hour’s charge.
Reported by Business Insider, Pipistrel Alpha Electro can fly 160 kilometres for as low as $5 per hour. The Slovenia-manufactured aircraft was first launched in 2016. It runs on an electric motor, the 100kg 21-kilowatt-per-hour battery can the complete battery can be charged in about an hour.
It has a smaller engine, 60-kilowatt electric engine precisely.
“The cost of electricity per hour of flight is roughly between $4 and $6,” – Krzysztof Będkowski of Pipistrel Alpha Poland.
Till now, about 40 similar planes have been produced for customers across the US, Europe and Australia.
The major problem with electric aircraft is the unavailability of charging points on the airports.
