After 20 years, Yahoo Messenger will now shut down

After 20 Years of connecting friends, families worldwide, Yahoo Messenger is being rested out now. The iconic chat service, once a one stop virtual resort for connecting people will finally bid farewall by mid next month.

Existing users have time till 17th July to get any fix on the messenger, the chat will not be accessible after that. As of now, there does not seem to be any replacement of Yahoo Messenger. Company suggests using its invite-only group messaging app Yahoo Squirrel. It is in a beta stage though, you can request for an invite at squirrel.yahoo.com.

Also existing messenger users can download their chat history to their personal computer or device through the end of November this year.

Here is how it works:

Go to the download request site and sign in, select a verification method, enter the Account Key sent to you, click download and then wait for the file to be sent to the provided e-mail address.

Yahoo have also mentioned that the termination of Yahoo Messenger will not affect its other services such as Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Fantasy.
