Writing, it is an expertise that does not require a college degree. Although, a degree in English and communication aids in a long way to write good content. I have seen many freelancers without a computer skill providing quality service as a content writer.
If you can write grammatically correct English and can write content that is SEO friendly, you can make good money as a writer on different freelance websites.
To give an answer to the question ‘which freelance marketplace is best for writers’. I am going to state my opinion based on my two decades of freelancing experience and consumer behavior.
Although Upwork is the world’s biggest freelance marketplace and arguably the best too, I have experienced that writers do not have much glory except those who are the best in business and have a great profile backed by awesome portfolio. Upwork is a brilliant platform for all services and my favorite too because of the quality of projects and leveled playing field for competition.
The best website for writers seems to be Fiverr and the reason is actually simple. Majority of the people take content writing projects as low paying jobs and Fiverr has built its reputation around five dollar jobs. Since writing is a non-qualified niche as humbly stated above, people are comfortable in paying $5 for 500 character words for an article.
Clients come on Fiverr, they search for writing GIGS and they chose a gig typically on the basis of views, orders completed, response time and of course the price for the service.
Be it content writing, research-based articles or an SEO optimized content for a blog, a client generally prefers going to Fiverr and selecting a GIG over posting a project on traditional freelance marketplaces like Upwork or Guru.
Perhaps one reason is clients who need an article writer are always in a hurry so they prefer buying an instant service over going through the process of posting a project, selecting a freelancer.
If you want to make a freelance career as a content writer, I would advise you to go to Fiverr, create a writing GIG and hopefully, the wagon wheel of orders will begin to move forward nicely.
At the same time, remember, the high paying clients are on UpWork, create your profile and look for good projects there. If you win some contracts, let me assure you, there is no marketplace like UpWork on the web.
I would love to know your thoughts on my opinion.
