Amancio Ortega, a Spanish businessman, owner of “Zara” became the richest man in the world on Wednesday. He stayed on top for 2 days, Wednesday and Thursday before Bill gates reclaimed the title on Friday morning.
According to “Forbes“, Shares of Ortega‘s business fell by 2.8% on Friday. As of Friday morning, Bill Gates was worth $78.1 billion while Ortega worth was $77.8 billion making Gates top the list again.
Ortega, a son of a railway worker, began professional life working as a clerk in a store. He then opened his own business with less then $100 and began making pajamas, nightgowns and lingerie from his living room.
in 1975, Ortega along with his wife started a store “Zara“, a flag ship store of Inditex.
As business grew, he took his business public 15 years back in 2001.
On the other hand, Bill Gates is Cofounder, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the world’s largest charitable organization. Bill Gates sold 4.6 million shares of Microsoft in 2014.
With such a narrow margin of difference between them, it seems like they will be over taking each other in times to come.
