In a recent chat with The Independent, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates shared a surprising memory of Apple’s Steve Jobs.
According to Gates, Jobs once quipped that if Gates had experimented with LSD, he might have developed a keener sense for design — a quality that Jobs credited as a driving force behind Apple’s innovative products.
“I remember Steve saying that if I’d taken acid, maybe I’d have honed a better taste for product design,” Gates recalled with a wry smile.
Gates went on to note that while he was deeply immersed in coding, Jobs’s strengths lay in marketing and design. He added.
“We were working in different realms — my focus was on the technical side, and he was on creativity and design. I have to say, his abilities in that area are something I genuinely admire,”
Reflecting on his younger days, Gates conceded he had dabbled with recreational drugs, but he rapidly cleared out that stage behind as he concentrated on building Microsoft alongside Paul Allen. Presently recognized as one of the world’s wealthiest people, Gates emphasizes that his victory stems from an organized, consistent approach or maybe depending on modified states of intellect.

In his memoir Source Code, Gates offers further details about his experiences with LSD.
One story recounts how he once showed up for a dental appointment still feeling the effects of the drug — a situation he now recalls with both humor and caution.
In another account, he described a shared LSD experience with Paul Allen and friends while watching an episode of the TV series Kung Fu. Ultimately, concerns over possible long-term effects on his memory convinced him to steer clear of the substance.
This candid recollection sheds light on the contrasting creative paths taken by two of tech’s most influential figures.
