After four votes in favor and 2 towards, the Senate’s Permanent Committee on information technology and Telecom approved the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025 on Monday.
Section 7 Rejected
One lawmaker’s suggested revisions to Section 7 of the bill were also discussed by the committee’s members. Senator Nadeem Bhutto subsequently dropped his vote after voicing concerns about the provision, despite the fact that four members had initially voted in favor of the adjustments.
The withdrawal prevented the suggested modifications to Section 7 from being approved, therefore the original wording stayed untouched.
By law, the original Act has been approved.
Digital Media Panel Members
The 17-supporters of the National Digital media Commission, led by the nation’s leader, are to be established, according to the bill. All provincial chief ministers, and the federal government ministers, and leaders of important organizations like the Securities and Exchanges Commission in Pakistan (the SECP), the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA), the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), and the Federation Board of Revenue (FBR) will serve upon the panel.
In compliance with the bill, a commission would be in charge of creating and carrying out a National Digital Master Plan that will make Pakistan a completely digital country. In addition to facilitating collaboration across government departments for digital change, the board will have the power to take actions if the master plan is not followed. To carry out the idea, a Pakistan Digital Authority will also be formed, and the prime minister would nominate its chief executive and board members for terms of four years.
In order to measure the effectiveness of the influence, the law also suggests creating a Strategy Monitoring Group, whose chairman would be the appropriate federal minister.
