Facebook and Instagram Get Tools to Limit Your Time on the Apps

The Social Media giant Facebook along with its counterpart Instagram had a strategy of keeping users engaged for long using these platforms, now they seem to be thinking otherwise: provide tools to users to track time and make the best choice using their time.

The new updates on these apps provide users with new options for time tracking in the dashboards, updating users for time  spent on scrolling through the feed. It will be known as “Your time on Facebook”, on the Facebook app, and “Your activity” on Instagram.

A select group of people is already testing the new features whereas it will be open to public in coming weeks. It will be available in a hamburger menu, or three vertical lines. Users can see the amount of time spent on the app in the past seven days, in addition to the other options.

Avoiding Negative Press

The institutes specializing in Mental health are a major factor in developing the new tools, Facebook claims. Facebook wants to avoid the negative press of excessive use of social media by these tools, which is ac direct variance to its main objective.

Facebook has been linked to unbalanced moods of the users and the company could rid itself of such claims with the implementation of such tools. Eventually, it is for the users to decide whether they use these tools for good or keep going otherwise.
