According to Facebook, in the first half of 2016 government requests for user account data increased up to 27% as compared to the second half of last year. The US law enforcement agencies are considered as topping the list in this regard.
More than half of the government requests contained non-disclosure order that didn’t allowed the social networking websites to inform users. The government requests increased from 46,710 to 59,229 globally.
Facebook’s blog stated that requests for content limitations, the number of items restricted for violating local laws decreased by 83% from the second half of 2015. Major reasons behind elevations in the number of content restriction requests were the November Paris attacks. Never before had Facebook ever provided any information about government requests but this time it was to preserve relevant user account information. For 67,129 accounts, the company received 38,675 preservation requests.
