Google Restricts Promotion of Deep Fake Content

New restrictions on deepfake sexual content for shopping ads were implemented by Google. Additionally, Google modified its general content policy to forbid endorsing the promotion of artificially produced or modified content that is sexually explicit or contains nudity.

Why it matters to us. If advertisers proceed to breach this policy, Google will send them a notice. Repeated violation may lead to account suspension.

What changed. Shopping ads are no longer available for Google advertisers to:

Encourage the use of services that produce, share, or archive artificially suggestive or nude content. Services that produce “deepfakes” and other altered imagery fall under this category.
Make advertisements for material that offers guidance on producing nude or sexually explicit synthetic content.

Implementation. The enforcement of the shopping advertising began yesterday, May 1. Advertisers for all other ad kinds have until May 30 to make all the required adjustments to guarantee that their advertising comply with the guidelines.
