A data collected by Kaspersky Lab reveals that in nine months of 2017 so far, more than 1.65 million computer are effected by a malware that mines for various types of cryptocurrencies.

Kaspersky states in a report that detections for cryptocurrency mining trojans picked from a low point of 205,000 infections in 2013 to almost 1.8 million in 2016 and now in 9 months alone in 2017, the number is still rising.

Why is this rise in cryptocurrency mining malware taking place?
