A data collected by Kaspersky Lab reveals that in nine months of 2017 so far, more than 1.65 million computer are effected by a malware that mines for various types of cryptocurrencies.

Kaspersky states in a report that detections for cryptocurrency mining trojans picked from a low point of 205,000 infections in 2013 to almost 1.8 million in 2016 and now in 9 months alone in 2017, the number is still rising.

According to Bleeping Computer, many cyber-security firms have been talking about the rise in the cryptocurrency mining malware distributions. Below is a list with the most important malware distribution campaigns that pushed cryptocurrency miners in 2017.

Why is this rise in cryptocurrency mining malware taking place?

Well, the answer is simple. We have seen a huge rise in trading price of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, ZCash and others and that has attracted both legitimate users and the criminals to make quick cash overnight.
