Italian actor, Robert De Niro’s performance in Taxi Driver (1976) had a profound impact on upcoming star Meryl Street. She wanted to become an actress. She told herself, ‘That’s the kind of actor she wants to be when she grows up.’
Her debut was in 1975 in a theatre but she aspired to become a movie actress.
In persue of her dream to appear in movies in a leading role, Streep began auditioning for different film roles. She underwent an unsuccessful audition for the lead role in Dino De Laurentiis’s movie “KING KONG”. Laurentiis, referring to Streep as she appeared for the audition told his son.
“This is so ugly. Why did you bring me this?”
Little did Dono knew that Streep understood Italian. She profoundly replied:
“I’m very sorry that I’m not as beautiful as I should be, but, you know – this is it. This is what you get”.
Today, Meryl Streep is often described as the best and most graceful actress of her generation.
As of today, Her awards archive include: Nominated for a record 21 Academy Awards, she has won three. Among other accolades, she has also received 31 Golden Globe nominations, winning nine. She has 26 awards under her belt so far.
