QS Lists annually update top universities around the world by following a consistent methodology framework. It compiles different metrics that effectively capture the universities performances. This time also, Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) has issued a list of world’s top 500 universities for 2018. The recent survey shows that the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) acquired a place in the list of the top 500 universities.
In the list, NUST currently is ranked as 437th spot which is 91 places higher as compared to its position last year. Also, in the top 50 under 50 categories, NUST has improved its position from 74 to 61. This is the category which focuses on great performances in teaching and research in a university. The National University of Sciences and Technology has also improved in individual departments and its departments currently rank in the following position:
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering-270th position
- Computer Science and Information Systems-273rd position
- Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering-376th position
- Physics and Astronomy -472nd position
NUST has not acquired this position for the first time, for the past couple of years; this university is continuously proving to among Pakistan’s best learning institutions. In all Asian universities, it also acquires a spot on 112. There are some other Pakistani universities that have acquired a place in the top 1000 universities around the world. These include

- Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)-716th place
- University of Engineering and Technology (UET)- 934th place
- University of Karachi (KU)-937th place
- University of Lahore (UOL)-938th place
