Recently the news broke about the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus collecting private information of its customers. The information collected included IMEI number, MAC addresses, as well as mobile network names and Wi-Fi SSIDs.
The Chinese company immediately responded with the statement, saying that the data is transmitted securely and is used to fine tune their software according to user behaviour.
After a lot of pressure on Internet, company’s co-founder Carl Pie published a post and admitted that they collected usage analytics and device information. However, he emphasized that the information is never shared with any third party.
That being said, that the company will no longer be collecting information such as telephone numbers, MAC Addresses, and WiFi information. Carl has expressed his views and issued a statement on OnePlus Forum
