If you have friends who are blunt and outspoken, value them as they are hard to come by in this era of self-centered, narcissistic people.
Don’t like what you’ve just read?
Wait, read on…
Two Psychologists Kristin Joy and Timothy Jay have conducted research and it says; blunt people are smarter, not reserved, and do not hold back.
According to the research, those who regularly swear are likely to be smarter than those who don’t and are watchful about the words. Blunt people are more honest and certainly not diplomatic. They say what they feel best, and they never hold back, neither a comment nor a grudge against their friends.
When we were growing up, we were told, swearing is bad, and to stay away from such friends. Swearing is rude, inappropriate and honestly, people don’t like such people too. People who are not watchful of what they say, swear a lot are usually perceived as rude, uneducated, and sadly ignorant.
There’s also a generally established fact that those who swear a lot cannot express their words because of a lack of communication skills and intelligence. However, Psychologists Kristin Joy and Timothy Jay disagree with all such facts.
In their study, they found out that people who are blunt and swear often are fluent in mundane words.
Nonpropositional swearing is unintentional, unplanned and uncontrollable. It involves automatic emotional responses, occurring most frequently in response to sudden bursts of emotion.
Swearing is influenced by pragmatic (contextual) variables such as the conversational topic, the speaker-listener relationship, including gender, occupation, and status.
People who are blunt, and swear more are comfortable in expressing their words and feelings. They are straightforward people unlike those who are careful about their selection of words and are seen as reserved.
So you unfriended a friend who swore a lot, guess what, they may be a better friend than others, at least, that is what the research suggests. Blunt people speak their hearts out. Such people have lower deception levels and higher integrity at a personal level.
Next time when someone points your attention to some slippery words, tell them, You have the science to back you up.
