Samsung’s Messages app sends random photos to the phone contacts due to a bug in the latest update.
Seen as a massive privacy breach, some users have complained about their smartphones sending random photos and scheduled texts to their contacts without the user’s consent without keeping the sent record in their devices.
Samsungs models Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus, and Galaxy Note 8 have the issue while there is no such issue on the other models.
The stock messaging app’s update resulted into this issue apparently generated by the carrier’s recent RCS (Rich Communication Services) updates. RCS is responsible for improved user’s texting experience on Android with features like like group chat, video, GIF support, and file and location sharing.
One S9+ user complained for the issue when his photo library was sent to one of his contacts while he was asleep! The user also mentioned that there was not even a record of the mass sharing in his phone messages.
Samsung’s representatives admit that there is an issue and said the company is working to resolve it.
How to Fix it
Since there is no trace for the sent files in the devices, Samsung advices users to not update to the latest version till further notice.
The users already installing the update are advised to disable the app’s settings for their phone’s storage access.
Users can disable this setting by going in to:
Settings -> Apps -> Samsung Messages -> Permissions -> Storage.
Another possible choice for the users is to use some other messaging service instead of Samsung’s default App. One of the best choice out there is Android Messages by Google.
