Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella is one of the most progressive CEO’s in the industry. He believes in long term thinking, instant decisions and re-inventing in business in order to stay ahead of the competitive curve.
Here are his three rules for great leadership.
1- Think Day 1
This sounds like a James Bond movie title but it is actually an innovative phrase Satya lives by. In early 2000, Microsoft seem to have lost its magic and touch with the customers but when Satya was appointed CEO by the board, he immediately declared all across the board that new game is going to be Day1 company. Day 1 company refers to making new decisions every day, do experiments and insure innovating in the company’s culture.
This means asking three important questions
1. Are we successfully creating new products, services or inventing new business models?
2. Are we effectively adapting to new changes, disruptions?
3. Microsoft culture rewards risk and failure?
2- Lead With Culture
A winning culture means a paradigm shift from know it all noms to learn it all practice. As CEO, his first bold step was to insure empowering every person and organization to achieve more. Within Microsoft, teams are focused to learn on passion related projects rather than taking Microsoft as a 40 year old company.
3. Act quickly, think slowly
He is a long term thinker who believes in instant actions. He gives a lot of value to high-speed decisions. In a VUCA world (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous), Satya knows that waiting for 100% certainty before you make a decision is too old school, out fashioned and slow.
