WhatsApp in a tweet clarifies regarding privacy policy row “Update doesn’t affect the privacy of messages with friends or family”. WhatsApp has given a list of new information “NOT shared with Facebook”. Perhaps a timely attempt to settle down the confusion dust among its users.

WhatsApp has now officially clarified all concerns of its users that encouraged them to leave the platform and move to other messaging apps such as Signal or Telegram.
WhatsApp has clearly mentioned that the recently revised policy “does not affect the privacy of messages with friends or family”. “Instead, this update includes changes related to messaging a business on WhatsApp”.
On Twitter shared a list of information “NOT shared with Facebook”.
- WhatsApp cannot see your private messages or hear your calls and neither can Facebook.
- WhatsApp does not keep logs of who everyone is messaging or calling.
- WhatsApp cannot see your shared location and neither can Facebook.
- WhatsApp does not share your contacts with Facebook.
- WhatsApp groups remain private.
- You can set your messages to disappear.
- You can download your data.
The users’ biggest concern is about “group privacy”. Addressing this issue, WhatsApp has mentioned in the Security and Privacy section of its website saying: “We don’t share this data with Facebook for ads. Again, these private chats are end-to-end encrypted so we can’t see their content.”
Further users can change message setting through “additional privacy” to “disappear from chats after you send them”. WhatsApp has given a complete guide for these settings on its website.
The company has issued second clarification regarding cross-platform messaging and Voice over IP services policy change, which states that it will share data with its mother company Facebook.
The user has to accept the revamped policy to further use it. Users’ account will be deleted if they decline to accept it. The new policy will come into effect from 8th February 2021.
