In the last few hours, the first advice that came from the Facebook-owned company after the news leak of massive vulnerability found was to install the latest update of WhatsApp on your smart phones.
You do not need to uninstall your WhatsApp and then install it again. Just go to your Play store (if you are using Android) and iTunes if you are an Apple user and search for WhatsApp. It will show you on the top if an update is needed.
Click on update button to install the latest version of WhatsApp on your phone.
According to WhatsApp, hackers have installed spyware through an infected voice call. Spyware can instal through voice calls and could be seriously infective. It can activate the victim’s phone’s camera, access data and transmit important information using the internet.
WhatsApp is used by 1.5 billion globally. According to the Financial Times, the Israeli cyber intelligence company NSO Group seems to have developed the spyware. If you have not received a voice call, chances are, you are safe.
It is strange to know that in particular, lawyers have been affected, so far the news has come out of some UK based lawyers targeted yet.
