WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will let users add music to their status updates, aiming to enhance the chat app’s overall user experience.
The feature, inspired by Instagram’s music integration, was spotted in the latest WhatsApp Android beta 2.25.2.5 update on the Google Play Store.
Owned by Meta, WhatsApp has recently introduced features like “like-reactions” and revamped the user interface for status updates.
According to WABetaInfo, a new music icon will appear in the drawing editor when users create a status. Users can search for their favorite songs, artists, or trending tracks by tapping them. After selecting a song, users can choose a specific segment to include in their status. Image-based statuses will play music for up to 15 seconds, while video statuses will support varying durations.
The song will appear with the main image or video; viewers can tap it to visit the artist’s Instagram page.
Currently, this feature is in beta testing with a limited group of users, designed to make the app more versatile and user-friendly.
Meta’s Threads has also introduced music integration for posts, marking a broader trend across social platforms.
