City District Administration’s AI Traffic Learning Plan
In a recent development to alleviate traffic congestion in Lahore, the city district administration has unveiled a strategic plan leveraging artificial intelligence (AI). Chaired by Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood, a meeting highlighted the pivotal role of AI in managing traffic issues.
Implementation and Scope of AI Integration
The initiative proposes the deployment of AI through Safe City cameras strategically positioned at five critical traffic chokepoints. Commissioner Maqsood underscored that continuous AI monitoring will swiftly detect and mitigate factors contributing to traffic bottlenecks.
Collaborative Efforts for Traffic Management
LWMC instructed to relocate waste containers from Lahore’s main roads for smoother traffic flow. Additionally, the Traffic Engineering and Town Planning Agency (TETPA) and district administration must remove illegal signage obstructing roads and footpaths.
Comprehensive Approach to Traffic Solutions
The Safe City cameras will also aid in identifying illegal parking and traffic congestion citywide. Initial measures include the removal of illegal structures, intensive traffic awareness campaigns, and ongoing improvements in lane markings and signage under TETPA’s supervision.
Emphasis on Effective Traffic Engineering
Commissioner Maqsood emphasized the importance of a practical traffic engineering strategy, aligning with directives from the chief minister for comprehensive traffic management interventions in Lahore. Plans include redesigning roads, patchwork repairs, installing new signage, and implementing spike barriers.
Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement
The meeting saw participation from key officials, including Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar, LWMC CEO Babar Sahibdin, Wasa Managing Director Ghafran Ahmed, and Punjab Safe City Authority representatives. This collective effort underscores a coordinated approach to tackling Lahore’s traffic challenges.
