Turkish president Tayyip Erdoğan has called for ban of U.S. electronic goods including iPhone. In a statement, Erdoğan is calling for Turkey to boycott Apple products in response to rising tensions between US and Turkey.
“Every product that we buy in foreign currency from outside, we will produce them here and sell abroad,” Erdoğan said during a speech. “We will boycott the electronic products of the U.S.”
Erdoğan called out the iPhone and talked about the alternatives such as Vestel, Turkish based smartphone manufacturer.
“If they have iPhone, there is Samsung on the other side,” Erdoğan said. “And we have our own telephone brands. We are going to produce enough for ourselves. We have to serve better goods than we are importing from them.”
Vestel is one of the technology giants in Turkey whose market share is no way closer to the iPhone which has an huge international market of over 700 million users.
“We will boycott American electronic goods. If they have iPhone, there is Samsung on the other side. We have Vestel Venüs in our country. We will adopt these measures.”
“We have taken and we will take more measures to this end. I will have some more contacts on this issue in the coming days,” he added.
