Since September. 2021, WhatsApp has been working on a feature to transcribe voice messages. This progress was revealed in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS (23.3.0.73).
The story is un-earthed by WABetaInfo, a company that keeps a close eye on all new features and functions of WhatsApp.
According to the screenshot, WhatsApp is currently working on a notification that shows when transcriptions are unavailable. If the app doesn’t recognize any words or transcripts that are not set to the language in the sender’s messages, transcripts won’t work.
Transcribing can also be done in different languages. Language packs are downloaded locally on the device in order to process these voice note transcriptions. You remain the only one who can access your voice notes because they are never shared with WhatsApp or Apple. Currently, the feature may only be available for IOS users not for Android users.
It may be useful to have this feature when you receive a voice message and are unable to listen to it at the moment, such as while listening to music over Bluetooth speakers.
The launch date for this feature has not yet been announced, but since it has entered beta testing once again, it should roll out soon.
