The modern system of communication has its roots in the sea beds. All the data shooting around the world actually relies on a series of tubes to get around. This is linked to a massive system of the fiber-optic cables lying deep underneath the oceans.
Every continent is connected through it and carries e-mails, photos, videos, and emojis around the globe. This has also expanded to the developing countries such as Pakistan. The country is now connected with this new submarine cable system having a design capacity of at least 40 Terabits per second across 5 pairs as AAE-1. This Asia-Africa-Europe-1 has linkage has been announced recently. It is considered world’s largest submarine cable spanning over 25,000 KMs that connects cable systems of Hong Kong, Middle East, and Singapore with Europe, Africa, and Middle East.
The consortium of AAE-1 includes China Unicom, CIL (HyalRoute), Etisalat, Mobily, Omantel, Oordoo, PCCW, OTEG, Telecm Egypt, TeleYemen, TOT, Viettel, etc. the submarine cables in Pakistan will be operated by PTCL. This AAE-1 project will help increase the international bandwidth pipe multiple folds which will make the country’s international connection more streamlined. As the internet usage in the country is increasing therefore the new submarine cables will help the country to meet its bandwidth requirements.

The Silk Route Gateway-1 with design capacity of 20Tbps and Pakistan-China Fiber Optic Back-Haul are the international links that are under construction in Pakistan.
