Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian Joins Bold Move to Acquire TikTok in Surprise Bid

As a strategic advisor, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has joined billionaire Frank McCourt’s attempt to buy TikTok.

The Ohanian, an investor and the spouse of tennis player Serena Williams, joined a coalition known as “The People’s Bid for TikTok,” according to a statement released this week by McCourt’s online lobbying group, Project Liberty.

In a number of postings Published on X on Tuesday, Ohanian stated, “I’m definitely now among those who are attempting to buy TikTok US to put it on-chain.” Operation Liberty claims to utilize the distributed, blockchain-based platform to give consumers more control over their personal information on the internet. 

The technology will act as the structural foundation of the modified TikTok, guaranteeing security, confidentiality, and digital autonomy are no longer optional but essential,” according to Project Liberty, if it wins its proposal. On the following day, an X user questioned Ohanian who would name TikTok if he bought it, and he replied, “TikTok: Liberty Version.”

Last year, former President Joe Biden signed a nonpartisan federal measure that compelled TikTok to sever its connection with its controlling firm, ByteDance, located in China, or risk being banned by January 19.

President Donald Trump gave TikTok till the beginning of April to identify its next owners in accordance with his initial administrative directives, which he signed in January.

The Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary is part of McCourt’s group, which has already made ByteDance an offer of $20 billion in money for the U.S. market. Even without its prized method, which McCourt has stated he is not interested in, several experts predict TikTok may be worth far beyond that. 

In January, Trump stated that Microsoft is one of the American firms attempting to acquire TikTok. Another company interested in TikTok is Confusion AI, an Artificial intelligence firm that has offered to combine with the U.S. platform of TikTok to provide the federal government of the United States a share in the new company. Jesse Tinsley, the creator of the payment company Employer.com, is also included. According to Tinsley, ByteDance is being offered more than $30 billion for TikTok by the group he assembled, including the CEO of the video game site Roblox.
