Amazon has begun rolling out a redesigned Fire TV mobile app to customers. Unlike the previous version, which served mainly as a backup remote, the new app allows users to browse and discover content directly from their phones, manage watchlists on the go, and play titles on their TV using the mobile interface.

“The updated app turns smartphones into a second screen for discovering what to watch next, making it easy to add a friend’s show recommendation to a watchlist even when away from home,” Amazon said in a statement. “This integration between mobile and TV creates a more flexible and convenient viewing experience for Fire TV customers to find what they want to watch, fast.”

The rollout is currently underway in the U.S., Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the U.K.

The refreshed app mirrors the updated Fire TV interface launched last month, which focuses more on content while simplifying navigation. Key design improvements include:

  • Rounded corners, varied gradients, and consistent typography

  • Increased spacing between content

  • More space for pinned apps

The top navigation bar is now streamlined into clear categories: Movies, TV, Live TV, Sports, and News, with the search button placed prominently to the left of the Home tab for easier access.

Content Discovery Features

Within each tab, the app highlights:

  • Shows and movies the user is already watching

  • Personalized recommendations from subscribed services, organized under “For You.”

  • Free movies, top movies, and other paid content suggestions

The redesigned app and interface aim to address the growing challenge of streaming content overload, helping users discover content more easily across multiple services rather than just launching individual apps.
