Anthropic announced Wednesday a major new data center partnership with U.K.-based neocloud provider Fluidstack. The company plans to invest $50 billion in building AI-optimized facilities across the U.S. to meet growing compute demands.
The new data centers will be located in Texas and New York, coming online throughout 2026. Anthropic described them as custom-built to maximize efficiency for its AI workloads.
“We’re getting closer to AI that can accelerate scientific discovery and solve complex problems in ways that weren’t possible before,” said Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic. Realizing that potential requires infrastructure that can support development at the frontier.”

Why Anthropic Needs Custom Infrastructure
Anthropic’s Claude AI models require massive compute power. The company already works with Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services (AWS), which also invests in Anthropic.
However, this is Anthropic’s first major effort to build dedicated AI infrastructure. The $50 billion commitment aligns with internal projections. Anthropic expects to reach $70 billion in revenue and $17 billion in positive cash flow by 2028.
How This Compares to Competitors
While $50 billion is significant, it’s smaller than similar projects from rivals:
-
Meta plans $600 billion in AI data centers over three years.
-
The Stargate partnership (SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle) targets $500 billion in AI infrastructure.
The surge in AI infrastructure spending has raised concerns about an AI bubble, including misallocated resources or lower-than-expected demand.

Fluidstack’s Role in the AI Boom
The project is a major win for Fluidstack, a young neocloud provider founded in 2017. The company has become a go-to vendor for AI data center builds.
-
In February, Fluidstack partnered on a 1-gigawatt AI project backed by the French government, representing $11 billion in spending.
-
The company also has deals with Meta, Black Forest Labs, and France’s Mistral.
-
Fluidstack was among the first third-party vendors to receive Google’s custom TPUs, signaling strong industry confidence.
