Anthropic keeps striking new cloud deals. Over the past several months, it has been on a real partnership spree. The latest move is a big one. Reports say Anthropic has signed a $10 billion deal with an AI cloud startup called Volta.
Bloomberg broke the story first. According to that report, Volta will supply cloud computing power to Anthropic, the company behind Claude. The deal is set to run over six years. Volta itself is a young company. It was only founded earlier this year.
Volta isn’t working alone on this deal. It has a partner called Bitdeer. Bitdeer is a crypto-mining company. It will help build the data center needed to deliver this new compute capacity. The facility itself will be located in Norway. Once complete, it’s expected to deliver 133 megawatts of capacity.
The data center will run on Nvidia’s newest chip technology. Specifically, it will use Nvidia’s Vera Rubin systems. These represent the chipmaker’s most advanced AI chip architecture to date.
Volta also has a formal relationship with Nvidia. It’s part of Nvidia’s Cloud Partner program. This program brings together AI cloud providers that build their data centers around Nvidia’s GPUs.
Before this report, Volta had already hinted at a major deal. The company mentioned working with an AI lab but didn’t reveal a name at the time. Bloomberg’s report was based on unnamed sources familiar with the arrangement.
This deal fits a larger pattern for Anthropic. The company has been pushing hard to grow its computing capacity. That push has picked up speed over the last several months. Much of it is tied to intense competition with rival AI companies. Anthropic wants to make sure it has enough infrastructure to keep up.
This isn’t Anthropic’s only recent compute deal, either. The company has been busy on multiple fronts. It recently struck a new agreement with SpaceX. Around the same time, it also expanded its partnership with Amazon. That Amazon deal reportedly included an additional $5 billion investment.
Taken together, these moves show where Anthropic’s priorities lie right now. Compute capacity has become one of its biggest focuses. As AI models grow larger and more demanding, having enough raw computing power has become a competitive necessity. Anthropic appears determined not to fall behind on that front.
The Volta deal adds another major piece to that strategy. With a dedicated facility in Norway, built specifically to serve Anthropic‘s needs, the company is securing long-term, large-scale infrastructure. And with Nvidia’s newest chip architecture powering it, the deal also signals a bet on staying at the cutting edge of AI hardware for years to come.
