The update introduces HD video calling and voice isolation, both accessible through the call settings menu. HD is enabled by default for Wi-Fi calls and can be manually activated for mobile data calls.

Messenger allows you to leave audio or video messages when contacts are unavailable, functioning like a digital voicemail. You can tap the new “Record Message” button to send a recorded audio or video message if a call goes unanswered.

Additionally, Messenger has integrated with Siri on iOS. Siri is now available for voice commands on Messenger. “Hey Siri, send Cassandra a message,” for example, and then narrate your message.

Meta also added AI-powered backgrounds for video calls. This feature was previewed earlier this year. During Messenger video conversations, users will soon be able to create their backdrops by hitting the “effects” icon in the sidebar and selecting “Backgrounds.”

These updates follow several recent enhancements to Messenger, including a new communities feature, the integration of the Meta AI chatbot into the search bar, and tools for sharing large files. Late last year, Meta also changed Messenger conversations to use end-to-end encryption by default.
