Apple is increasing its manufacturing presence in India massively. The company now makes around 25% of its iPhones in India, a significant milestone in the company’s supply chain strategy.
The move is further evidence of Apple’s long-term ambition to lessen its reliance on China while stamping out production across various regions.
India’s Increasing Role in iPhone Production
Apple’s production figure mentioned in the JPMorgan Chase report brings it in line with a prediction made back in 2022.
During 2025, total iPhone production was around 220 million–230 million units globally, and India manufactured about 55 million of those.
That means about one in every four iPhones globally is now being made in India.
Apple has been expanding its manufacturing base in the country for years now. The company is also working with key suppliers to strengthen production facilities and local supply chains.

Apple to Make More iPhones in India

Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the majority of iPhones sold in the United States are now supplied from Indian productions.
This marks a significant change in Apple’s manufacturing approach, which has traditionally depended on factories in China.

Apple’s expansion in India came to a head in 2025. As U.S. trade policies and tariff rules changed, the company could no longer be 100 percent sure of its future in China.
To mitigate this risk, Apple began diversifying its manufacturing operations across multiple countries.
The geopolitical implications are significant. During a business summit in the Qatari capital, Doha, ex-U.S. President Donald Trump allegedly warned Apple not to expand too aggressively in India.
Despite such concerns, Apple is forging ahead with strengthening its production partnerships in the country.

India is not just a manufacturing base for Apple — it’s also becoming an important consumer market.
In India, Apple shipped nearly 14 million iPhones last year, up 9% from the previous year, according to Counterpoint Research.
On the other hand, overall iPhone sales in the country surpassed $9 billion, indicating that demand for Apple products remains strong.
Apple is broadening its retail and services footprint, too. The company has opened its sixth Apple Store in India and is expected to launch Apple Pay in the country later this year.
