Instagram Is Finally Removing Its ‘Stalking’ Feature

Facebook paid heed to the user’s concerns about privacy by removing the activity log and stoped displaying it to the friends in the notification section, a long time back. Another Facebook-owned company, Instagram is still keeping this stalking feature that would let people know about the activities of their friends.

Finally, Instagram is removing the “Following” feature too. Don’t worry, it’s not your followers but the “Following” tab that allows you to see the activities of your friends.

“Following” tab is built into the Notifications tab but it presents the privacy issue. it’s weird too. Why should other users get to know what you are up to, who have you followed? The tab just existed to stir up drama and many users joined Instagram only to see the activities of other users.

“People didn’t always know that their activity is surfacing. So you have a case where it’s not serving the use case you built it for, but it’s also causing people to be surprised when their activity is showing up.” Vishal Shah, Instagram’s head of product.

It is expected that the feature will go away within a week.
