Meta has provided more guidance on how it defines original content. The company also announced new measures to penalize non-original posts and impersonator accounts.
Updated Guidelines for Original Content
Meta updated its content guidelines to clarify what counts as original. It now explains how much editing or change is needed for a repost to be considered original. The rules also clarify how the presence of the account owner affects originality.
For example, Reels that include third-party content—like remixes or overlays—can be considered original if the creator adds something genuinely new. This could be fresh information, a unique analysis, or significant improvements to a story.
Meta says that simply reacting, stitching clips, or narrating existing content without meaningful additions will be classified as unoriginal. These posts may be deprioritized in the feed and Reels.
This change signals the end of cheap reaction videos that rely on minimal effort to maintain posting frequency.

Challenges for Creators
Maintaining a consistent posting schedule is part of growing an online presence. Many creators rely on reaction clips to keep their audience engaged. With fewer options to post non-original content, creators may face burnout or post fewer videos on Meta’s platforms.
Improved Content Protection Tools
Meta is also enhancing its content protection tools. These tools help creators detect reposts and impersonation more easily.
The platform already alerts creators when someone shares a Reel similar to their original. Now, Meta is upgrading the reporting flow for imposter content and accounts. Creators can review alerts in their Professional Dashboard and report issues directly in the app.
These updates make it easier for creators to protect their original work and ensure they receive proper credit.
