Facebook has announced a major change to its live video storage policy. From now on, all new live videos will be stored for 30 days before being automatically deleted.
What’s Changing?
- 30-Day Storage Limit: Any new live video on Facebook can be replayed, downloaded, or shared for up to 30 days before it’s permanently removed.
- Removal of Older Live Videos: Existing live videos older than 30 days will be steadily erased in the coming months. Facebook will inform users using mail and in-app alerts, permitting 90 days to save or transfer their substance.
- New Download & Transfer Tools: To help users retain their videos, Facebook is introducing tools for quick downloads and direct transfers to cloud storage services.
Why the Change?
Facebook aims to align with industry standards and user behavior. Since most live video views occur within the first few weeks, long-term storage is less critical for many creators and businesses.
How to Save Your Live Videos
Facebook offers several options to retain or repurpose your content:
✔ Single Video Download – Open a live video, tap the “…” menu, and select Download Video.
✔ Bulk Download – Use the Activity Log or Videos tab to find and download multiple videos at once.
✔ Cloud Transfers – Move videos directly to Dropbox, Google Drive, or other supported storage platforms.
✔ Convert to Reels – Clip highlights from your live streams to create Facebook Reels, which remain on your page beyond the 30-day limit.
Need More Time?
If you need extra time to manage your archived live videos, Facebook allows you to postpone deletion for up to six months. After this grace period, any unsaved videos will be permanently removed.
