TikTok announced Monday that it’s launching new shopping features. That includes an AI shopping assistant. It also includes a new in-app checkout feature. This lets users buy directly from brands without leaving the app.
TikTok describes its new Shopping Assistant as a conversational AI agent. It’s designed to help users discover and purchase products. According to the company, this assistant understands context throughout a conversation. It remembers users’ preferences and needs as they chat.
The assistant offers real-time, AI-powered shopping guidance. That includes product details, shipping information, sizing, and availability. It can also help users complete a purchase directly.
As for the new checkout feature, TikTok explains how it works. Users can buy directly from a brand right from their For You feed. That’s the app’s main, algorithm-driven video feed. The purchase happens with just one click.

These new features could help TikTok capture more of users’ shopping journeys. That means potentially capturing more transaction value too, without sending users to outside platforms. By pairing a shopping assistant with direct payments, TikTok is transforming its feed. The impulse-driven discovery feed now becomes a place for answers and purchases. Users can get product questions answered and buy on the spot.
By building this AI shopping assistant directly into its app, TikTok appears to have a specific goal. The company hopes users will stay within its platform when they have product questions. This would reduce reliance on outside AI tools, like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
According to the company, these new features are being built through partnerships. That includes several commerce platforms and payment providers. Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe are among these partners.
TikTok Shop has long served as the platform’s main e-commerce engine. That’s the app’s in-house marketplace. These new features broaden TikTok’s approach well beyond this existing shopping hub. Rather than relying solely on TikTok Shop to drive purchases, the platform is integrating shopping tools more directly elsewhere. That includes directly within the broader app experience, including the For You feed itself.

This expansion arrives as TikTok’s influence on shopping continues growing. According to TikTok’s Economic Impact Report, released last week, the platform’s impact is substantial. Activity on TikTok helped generate $81 billion in GDP for U.S. businesses. Separately, 54 million Americans said they had purchased a product after watching a TikTok video.
TikTok Shop originally launched in the U.S. back in September 2023. Market research firm eMarketer estimates its impact for 2025. The platform generated about $15.8 billion in U.S. sales that year. That represents roughly 18% of all U.S. social commerce activity.
