PayPal and Venmo Users Can Now Easily Send Money to Each Other

PayPal and Venmo intigeration

A big update is coming this November! Venmo and PayPal, two of the most popular money apps in the world, are finally becoming compatible.

For years, millions of users complained about the hassle of moving money between Venmo and PayPal. Even though PayPal owns Venmo, the two apps never worked together natively. That’s about to change.

What’s New?

Starting in November, PayPal users will be able to send money directly to Venmo users, and Venmo users can do the same in return.

  • Search by phone number: PayPal users can find Venmo accounts using phone numbers.

  • Email integration coming soon: Later, users will also be able to connect using email addresses.

  • Global support: Payments will work in the U.S. and around the world.

Venmo announced in an email:

“Venmo users and PayPal users will be able to pay each other in the U.S. and worldwide. That means PayPal users will be able to find and pay you using your phone number, and later using your email address.”

Why This Matters

Until now, users had to use complicated workarounds — like transferring money to a linked bank account, then reloading funds to the other app. This process was slow and frustrating.

With this update, sending money between Venmo and PayPal will be as easy as sending it to a friend on the same app.

This move also strengthens PayPal World, PayPal’s new global payments network. Announced in July, PayPal World is building partnerships with major services like:

  • Mercado Pago (Latin America)

  • NPCI International Payments Limited (India’s global UPI expansion)

  • Tenpay Global (Tencent/WeChat Pay, China)

The goal? Borderless money transfers. PayPal says this will make it easier to send money abroad without huge fees or barriers.

Privacy Options for Venmo Users

If you don’t want PayPal users to be able to find your account:

  1. Open the Venmo app.

  2. Go to Settings > Privacy > Find Me.

  3. Adjust your visibility settings.

  4. While you’re there, it’s smart to set all Venmo transactions to private under Settings > Privacy.

This ensures your money transfers are safe and not visible to strangers.

The Bigger Picture

Venmo and PayPal combined have over 2 billion global users. This new connection will help PayPal compete against fast-growing rivals like Cash App, Zelle, and Apple Pay.

With people sending billions of dollars through digital wallets each year, this integration could make Venmo + PayPal one of the strongest fintech ecosystems worldwide.
