YouTube CEO Neal Mohan recently addressed concerns about Netflix and other streaming platforms potentially luring away YouTube’s most popular creators. During a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times series The Interview, Mohan made it clear that he isn’t worried about competitors pulling YouTube talent away.
Playing It Cool with Competitors
Mohan’s interview showed a relaxed and confident approach. When asked about Conan O’Brien joking at YouTube’s expense, he laughed it off, saying, “He’s very funny,” and noted that O’Brien’s Team Coco channel performs exceptionally well on YouTube.
YouTube as the “Home” for Creators
Regarding high-profile podcasts like The Breakfast Club and My Favorite Murder moving to Netflix, Mohan called it “flattering” that other platforms see YouTube as the cultural hub. However, he emphasized that most top creators view YouTube as their home base.
Mohan said.
“I have not come across YouTubers that have completely yanked their content off YouTube.”
Even when creators explore opportunities on other platforms, they ultimately understand that YouTube is the right long-term choice for them.

No Plans to Leave
Mohan added that rival streaming services often adjust their deals to align with what YouTube creators know is best: staying on the platform that built their audience. “They ultimately know the right decision for them in the long term, which is to never leave their home,” he concluded.
