Acquired by Facebook in 2014, WhatsApp has grown into one of the most used services all over the world for text/video calling. WhatsApp is a free service, yet it enables people to get in touch with each other. On Wednesday, Facebook-owned company revealed that it has crossed the landmark of two billion users all around the world.

Facebook has surrounded bad, controversial news in the last couple of years but WhatsApp stood firm and has been growing along nicely despite Facebook being criticized over privacy, data leak news.

“Private conversations that once were only possible face-to-face can now take place across great distances through instant chats and video calling,” WhatsApp blog post.

“There are so many significant and special moments that take place over WhatsApp and we are humbled and honored to reach this milestone.”

“Strong encryption is a necessity in modern life. We will not compromise on security because that would make people less safe,” WhatsApp said.

WhatsApp has a strong “end to end encryption“. This in many cases prevents law enforcement from accessing users’ data, even after a court order.

India has the most number of users of WhatsApp. The world’s largest, securest messaging app lets you text each other. It supports media files such as videos, PDF, etc. People can also make video calls as well as group calls. WhatsApp has a desktop version as well which can be easily activated after scanning a bar code in the app.
