Stuart Russell, a leading AI researcher at UC Berkeley, warned against what he called “Epochal” hype, reminding observers that breakthroughs in games and contests often have limited impact on practical AI applications. Still, he admitted that solving complex programming problems correctly as Gemini did shows real progress toward creating systems that can generate reliable, high quality code.
