Apple has confirmed that its next Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will run from June 8 to June 12. Like recent years, it’ll be mostly online, with some in-person sessions at its Cupertino campus.

WWDC is usually where Apple shows off what’s coming next for iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, and the rest of its lineup. That part isn’t changing. What is changing, at least this year, is the focus.

Apple is already hinting that AI will be a big theme.

That’s a noticeable shift. If you remember last year’s event, it was mostly about design changes—especially that glossy “Liquid Glass” interface. AI barely got a mention. This time, it sounds like Apple is ready to talk about it properly.

There’s been a lot of talk for months now about a smarter Siri. Not just small improvements, but something more useful—better at understanding context, maybe even aware of what you’re doing on your screen. Apple hasn’t confirmed that yet, but WWDC would be the place to show it.

Another thing in the background is Apple’s reported deal with Google to bring Gemini into the mix. If that actually shows up, it could power some of the heavier AI features behind the scenes. Apple usually likes to build things itself, so it’ll be interesting to see how much of this is Apple-built versus third-party AI.

For developers, WWDC is always more than just announcements. It’s where Apple gives them new tools to work with. Last year, it introduced its Foundation Models framework, which lets AI run on-device instead of relying on the cloud. That’s very Apple—keeping things private and secure.

There’s a good chance we’ll see updates to that this year, maybe making it easier for developers to actually use it in real apps.

Xcode is another area to watch. Apple has already started adding AI-powered coding tools, including features that can generate, fix, or improve code. It’s still early, but it’s clearly heading in the same direction as everyone else—making development faster with AI assistance.

As for watching the event, nothing new there. It’ll stream on Apple’s website, the Apple Developer app, and YouTube, so pretty much anyone can tune in.

Overall, this WWDC 2026 feels a bit different. Apple has been slower than others when it comes to AI, at least publicly. Now it looks like it’s ready to catch up—or at least show what it’s been working on behind the scenes.

We’ll find out in June if it’s just catching up… or trying to do things its own way again.
