New Survey Finds 15% Americans are Willing to Work Under AI Boss

New Survey Finds 15% Americans are Willing to Work Under AI Boss

It’s a weird question, honestly. A few years ago, most people wouldn’t even take it seriously. Now? Some actually are.

What People Are Saying

A recent Quinnipiac poll found that about 15% of Americans wouldn’t mind having an AI as their boss. Not a human — an actual system telling them what to do, setting schedules, that kind of thing.

The survey ran in late March 2026 and included just under 1,400 adults. It also looked at how people feel about AI more generally, not just at work.

Most people still said no. They’re not ready for that. But 15% isn’t nothing either.

This Is Already Happening (Sort Of)

Even if no one is officially reporting to a chatbot yet, parts of the job are already shifting.

Some companies use AI to approve expenses or handle routine decisions. At Amazon, certain management roles have quietly been reduced as more systems take over those tasks. And at Uber, there was even an AI version of the CEO used internally to review ideas before meetings. Sounds strange, but it happened.

So yeah, it’s not fully here — but it’s not that far off either.

Fewer Managers, More Systems

There’s this idea floating around—some call it “The Great Flattening.” Basically, fewer layers of management, more automation doing the heavy lifting.

In extreme cases, people even talk about companies run by barely any humans. That might be a stretch for now, but you can see why the conversation is happening.

The Bigger Worry

Here’s the part people are actually concerned about.

Around 70% of those surveyed think AI will reduce job opportunities overall. That’s a pretty big number.

And if you already have a job, it feels more personal. About 30% said they’re at least somewhat worried AI could replace what they do.

So… Would People Accept It?

Right now, most wouldn’t. At least not fully.

But the fact that some already would? That’s the interesting part. Things are changing — maybe not overnight, but definitely faster than people expected.
