X has officially released its rebuilt Android app. The update comes almost a year after the company announced plans to redesign the app from the ground up.
For years, the Android version lagged behind its iPhone counterpart. X wanted to change that. The company says the new app has been built from scratch instead of being updated piece by piece.
According to X, users should notice several improvements. The app promises faster loading times. Scrolling should feel smoother. Notifications have also been improved. Overall, the company says the Android experience is now faster and more reliable.
The project has been in development for nearly a year.
Last August, X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, revealed that the company was assembling an Android “dream team.” The goal was to completely rethink the Android experience rather than simply fixing old problems.
A few months later, Bier shared another reason for the investment. He said October had become one of X’s biggest months ever for Android downloads. That growth made rebuilding the app an even bigger priority.
Now the work is complete.
Bier described the project as one of the biggest engineering efforts in the company’s history. Instead of modifying the old app, developers started from scratch. That approach gives X a stronger foundation for future updates.
Bier said the new app is faster, smoother, and more dependable. He also believes it will help the company release new features much more quickly.
X has introduced several new products in recent months. These include X Money and X Chat, both of which have also received their own standalone apps.
The rebuilt Android app could help X attract more users around the world. Android remains the most popular mobile platform in many countries. A better app could encourage former users to return while also attracting new ones.
The old Android app had struggled for years. At one point last year, some users couldn’t even open X posts after tapping shared links. Those issues damaged the overall experience.

Even with the new release, the work isn’t finished.
Bier acknowledged that some improvements are still in progress. Performance on older Android phones still needs work. Support for Spaces, X’s live audio feature, is also being added.
More Android features are on the way as well.
Bier said users can expect the new video editor, the React with Video feature, cashtags, and custom timelines in future updates.
Existing Android users don’t need to install a separate app. They can simply update X through the Google Play Store to get the redesigned version.
