What Fiverr’s Q3 2026 Results Mean for Freelance Sellers

Freelancer desk with laptop showing a rising chart

Fiverr now has 2.4 million annual active buyers, down 25.8 percent from 3.3 million a year earlier, yet each of those buyers spends $373 a year, up 12.9 percent. Both numbers come from the company’s own Q3 2026 results release, published on October 29. For a freelancer, the practical reading is that there are fewer shoppers on the platform, but the ones who remain are buying bigger and more deliberately, so the sellers who package outcomes instead of cheap tasks are the ones left standing.

The Q3 numbers, side by side

Fiverr’s total revenue for the quarter ending September 30 was $90.9 million, down 15.8 percent. The split matters more than the headline. Marketplace revenue, the part driven by buyers hiring freelancers, fell 24.7 percent to $55.4 million. Services revenue, which includes Fiverr’s business-tooling side, grew 3.4 percent to $35.5 million, which the company credits partly to its AutoDS e-commerce product. In other words, the growth is not coming from more gigs being sold.

The marketplace take rate, meaning the share of every order Fiverr keeps, rose to 28.2 percent on a trailing twelve month basis, from 27.6 percent. Sellers are therefore keeping a slightly smaller slice of a smaller pool of orders.

Compare that with the previous quarter. In our breakdown of Fiverr’s Q2 numbers, active buyers stood at 2.7 million and marketplace revenue at $63.1 million. Going from 2.7 million to 2.4 million buyers in one quarter is a drop of roughly 11 percent, so the slide did not level off over the summer.

Why the traffic is leaving

Fiverr’s management gives a specific reason, and it is not mainly that clients stopped needing freelancers. The release says the shift from traditional search to AI-driven discovery is hurting marketplace traffic, and the company now expects a steeper decline through 2027 than it previously forecast. Buyers who once typed “logo designer” into Google and landed on a Fiverr category page now ask an AI assistant, and the assistant answers directly or names a handful of providers.

Fiverr’s response is to rebuild matching around a Knowledge Graph that pairs buyers with talent based on delivered outcomes, and to scale an AI headhunter called Mira that helps scope projects. Those are platform decisions you cannot control. What you can control is how visible and how legible your own work is to both humans and machines.

Higher spend per buyer is a clue about what sells

Fiverr says projects of $1,000 or more made up 16 percent of the gross order amount for completed projects over the trailing twelve months. The release does not break out buyer counts for that group, so treat it as a sign of direction, not a size estimate. The pattern is consistent with what Upwork reported in its Q2 2026 results: active clients fell 4 percent to 763,000, but gross services volume per active client rose 5 percent to $5,230, and AI-related volume grew more than 22 percent. Upwork’s CEO said lower-complexity work keeps shifting toward automation while new, higher-value demand appears. Upwork’s next update is scheduled for November 2, which will show whether the same pattern held in the third quarter.

What to change in your own gigs

Sell a result with a defined scope

A gig titled “I will design 3 logos” competes with free generators. A gig that delivers a brand starter kit with a logo, colour system, and social templates, scoped in writing, competes on judgement. Raise the entry price of your core offer, because the remaining buyers are already spending more per head.

Build a presence that does not depend on Fiverr search

If AI assistants are becoming the front door, your own portfolio page, a few written case studies with the client’s problem and the measurable outcome, and consistent profiles on LinkedIn and Upwork give those assistants something to find. Name your niche plainly on every page, for example “Shopify store migration for Pakistani exporters”, instead of a generic “web developer”.

Spread income across at least two channels

Pakistani freelancers are still earning at record levels overall, as we covered in the September 2026 earnings report, so the opportunity has not disappeared. It is moving. Keep Fiverr as one channel, add direct clients and one more marketplace, and track which one produces your highest-value orders.

Add the skills that are growing

The categories gaining demand are the ones involving AI integration, strategy and review of automated output. Our write-up of Upwork’s 2026 skills data shows which of these are growing fastest.

A quick self-audit you can do tonight

Open your Fiverr dashboard and sort your last 90 days of orders by value. Note which three orders paid best, who the buyer was, and what the brief looked like. Then check how many of your listings target the cheapest version of that work. If your best orders came from detailed briefs and your listings still advertise the lowest-priced task, rewrite the listing around the brief that paid well. Do the same exercise for any Upwork or direct clients, and you will see within an hour where your income is actually coming from.

What to watch next

Fiverr will give full 2027 guidance with its Q4 results and has already warned that the traffic decline will pressure margins. Its revised 2026 revenue guidance is $374 million to $380 million. If your Fiverr orders have slipped over the past two quarters, the company’s own filing says you are not imagining it, and the fix is to move up the value ladder instead of waiting for the old volume to return.
