OpenAI announced something new on Wednesday. The company is bringing voice-based agentic features directly to mobile. This lets users trigger specific workflows through voice commands. That includes drafting documents. It includes summarizing emails too.
Plus and Pro users will get access to a specific feature. They can use the Work tab on their phone for several tasks. That includes creating a document. It includes drafting an email. It also includes summarizing Slack messages, for example. These subscribers can do even more, too. They can build websites.
They can create presentations directly through the app. They also get access to a cloud browser. Other areas remain accessible too, like finances within ChatGPT. Meanwhile, Free and Go users will work differently. They’ll get access to plugins and connected apps instead.
OpenAI shared additional details about voice conversations too. ChatGPT’s voice conversations will now include richer text output. On top of that, users can switch between text and voice easily. They can also start a conversation on the go. Later, they can resume that same conversation on desktop seamlessly.

This new feature arrives at a notable moment. An increasing number of users are turning to voice commands. They’re using voice to issue commands to AI assistants for complex tasks specifically.
Back in July, OpenAI launched a new conversational model. That’s called GPT-Live. Later, the company integrated this model with its desktop app. This let users complete tasks using voice within the Work tab. It also let them build apps through the Codex tab. This new mobile rollout brings similar capabilities to the mobile app now.
Recently, Anthropic made a similar move in this space. The company made handoff between mobile and desktop considerably easier. It also merged its Cowork and Chat interfaces into one unified experience. Still, OpenAI is taking a different approach here. The company continues keeping chat and workspaces separate for now.
