Elon Musk’s X was unavailable to thousands of users on Monday morning, many of whom resided in the US. Musk said that the site is experiencing a “massive cyberattack” following disruptions that lasted for almost 8 hours.
“A significant cyberattack against 𝕏 occurred and continues to do so. This took a lot of assets, yet we are assaulted every day. Either a large, well-organized institution or a country is involved. He scribbled, “Tracing …” on X.
Musk claimed in a live interview with the Fox News Channel on Monday that an IP address emanating in the Ukraine region appeared to be the source of the purported hack against X.
Musk’s statements are unsupported by any proof, but it’s reasonable to assume that his system would be open to cyberattacks. As he has directly guided his staff, known as “DOGE,” through arbitrary cutbacks in government funding, employment, and overseas aid applications, Musk has become more well-known and contentious than ever during President Donald Trump’s second term in office.
Protests against Musk’s excessive, unaccountable position in government have also taken place at Tesla stores, and the company’s stock has also fallen.

Approximately 5:30 a.m. ET, X came down for certain users, and over 20,000 people reported disruptions, says Downdetector, a service that monitors user claims of internet problems. More than 40,000 people reported problems, and while the blackouts appeared to have subsided after an hour or two, they reappeared around 9:30 a.m. ET. The problems persisted after 1:30 PM ET, yet some users had the ability to access X on and off.
Although frequent disruptions are common for networks of this magnitude, users seldom find them comfortable. In the Downdetector remarks section, a commenter lamented, “On day 1 of the NFL open agency!? ELON, please fix this.
