TikTok has settled with the state of Alabama. The payment will be at least $100 million. The case was set for trial on Monday.
The state accused TikTok of two things. It said the app misled users about safety. It also said the app was built to addict children.
What the deal includes
The Alabama attorney general’s office shared the terms. TikTok could pay up to $300 million in total. That depends on certain conditions.
The company also agreed to several changes:
- A two-hour daily time limit for underage users
- More parental controls
- Limits on overnight use
- Restrictions on cosmetic filters
What officials and TikTok said
Attorney General Steve Marshall spoke about the deal. He said parents can rest easier now. In his words, real protections are in place against social media addiction.
TikTok also gave a statement. It said the deal builds on its commitment to teen safety. It added that it will keep improving its safety tools.

Not the first settlement
This is not TikTok’s first recent payout. In August, the company agreed to a $400 million settlement with the Department of Justice. That case involved claims that the app broke child privacy laws.
Two settlements in two months add pressure on the company. Child safety is now a major legal issue for social platforms.
