ChatGPT is about to get a lot more visual. This comes from a new feature that OpenAI calls Intelligent UI. The new interface rolls out Wednesday alongside a new GPT-6 model. It will bring a significant number of visuals into users’ conversations.
OpenAI says many of these visuals will be interactive. In other words, users won’t just see flat, cartoonish pictures. The chatbot will often include things users can work with directly. That includes tappable buttons. It includes a customized calculator built for a specific task. Interactive charts and editable graphs are part of this too.
According to OpenAI, the big goal is making “learning complex topics easier.” The feature may also make ChatGPT friendlier and more accessible. It could help bring in a wider audience as well. OpenAI didn’t say this directly, though.
In a call with journalists, OpenAI staff gave a short demonstration of Intelligent UI. They showed how the chatbot can instantly create various diagrams and visuals. These help users understand more abstract topics.

Aarush Selvan, a product manager at the company, explained the thinking behind this. “ChatGPT has predominantly been a text-based interface,” he said. The company wants to help users “get things done.” That ranges from everyday tasks like planning a recipe or a trip. It also includes trying to learn something new. In his words, “the most helpful answers aren’t just text.”
Selvan gave a specific example. He described a college student who wants to understand how an airplane wing works. He asked ChatGPT to “explore how an airplane wing generates lift.” The chatbot quickly created several diagrams. These were designed to show how planes stay in the air.
The company shared other examples too. That included visuals for recipes. It included a diagram explaining bicycle mechanics. There was also a map for a multi-day hiking trip. A personal savings calculator was another example.
This new feature will be customizable. It works like other aspects of ChatGPT’s personality. Users who don’t want so many visuals can dial them back.
Intelligent UI rolls out globally with GPT-6. It’s available for Pro, Plus, Business, and Enterprise users. It arrives Thursday for users on the free and lower-cost Go tiers.
