If iPhone 8 rumors are accurate, the next flagship device by Apple will deliver a setback to the Samsung’s new device. The recent forecasts suggest that Samsung might face a drop in sales of its Galaxy S8 due to Apple’s iPhone 8. Millions of Galaxy fans are impatiently waiting for the launch of Galaxy S8 handset. But even despite the apparent demand, the analysts are suggesting a different perspective.
After the Note 7 debacle, Samsung essentially released a single flagship device. And this year, Samsung could be facing an increased competition with its longtime rival Apple. Samsung will be facing a weaker demand for its Galaxy S8 than it did for its Galaxy 7 last year.
The analysts state that the main reason for the drop in demand is because Samsung lacks sufficiently attractive selling points. Also, Apple’s new approach with its display screens could possibly attract the customers towards its device. Moreover, it also offers features such as wireless charging, new glass design, and function area.
We project Galaxy S8 shipments of 40-45mn units in 2017F, implying slower momentum compared to Galaxy S7 in 2016 (around 52mn units shipped), attributable to: (1) a one-month difference in comparable sales period;
(2) Galaxy S7 was Samsung’s main promotional flagship model in 4Q16 after termination of Galaxy Note 7 due to the battery explosion issue, hence the higher sales base;
(3) as Galaxy S8 lacks sufficiently attractive selling points (except full-screen design), the OLED iPhone could well be a bigger draw for consumers.
The similarities’ in design between earlier iPhone 8 mockups and the Galaxy S8 leaks are much being debated around the corner. But the similarity between the two devices will not place any impact on the sales of the iPhone but surely will affect Galaxy S8 negatively.
iPhone 8 fans will have to wait until September for the launch of their favorite device but Samsung will be launching the Galaxy S8 this month and will begin the shipping in late April.
