This AI Startup Claims It Can Produce Permit-Ready Blueprints in Minutes

Nearly two decades ago, a young college student wrote his final thesis. His paper focused on software that could generate design documents for school buildings. Al Dram was studying architecture at the time. He was following in the footsteps of his parents and grandfather. However, technology was what really intrigued him.

There was just one major problem back then. The technology required for his concept did not exist yet.

Everything changed when ChatGPT arrived. Dram recalled the moment OpenAI released the generative AI chatbot in November 2022. The tool relied on large language models. His old college idea suddenly became realistic. Within six months, he launched the core concept of Blueprints AI. His new startup uses AI to produce code-compliant architectural blueprints. The software creates permit-ready drawings in minutes from a simple 2D sketch or PDF file.

Dram officially incorporated Blueprints AI in 2025 in Santa Monica alongside co-founder Coco Cao. The company earned a spot in the 2026 Startup Battlefield 200 cohort. This group represents promising early-stage startups. The event is taking place this week from October 13 to 15 in San Francisco.

Dram built extensive experience over the 20 years leading up to Blueprints AI. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture from the University of Tehran. He also completed two years of PhD coursework focusing on digital design at the European Graduate School in Switzerland.

Later, he moved to the United States. He launched an architecture firm, Drams Design-Build, in 2018. He obtained his general contractor’s license a few years later. In 2021, he expanded his business by adding a construction arm.

On paper, Dram had achieved standard professional success. Still, he felt unfulfilled.

He reflected on his mindset during that period. Building individual local projects could certainly improve specific lives. However, the overall global impact felt limited. Technology excited him because of its vast scaling potential. He wanted to save people countless hours of repetitive labor. He sought to reduce the wasted energy spent on redundant tasks.

Blueprints AI is revealing its second-generation platform. Dram and Cao believe this updated release will create massive industry change. The software automates the tedious drafting routines that consume an architect’s standard workday.

Dram emphasizes that the technology will ultimately yield better human spaces. It frees up valuable time for genuine creative planning. Right now, architects dedicate roughly 80% of their workday to drafting. They spend only 20% on actual design work. Dram aims to reverse that ratio completely.

Dram and Cao originally connected at an AI industry conference several years ago. They combined their distinct domain skill sets to launch the venture. Cao is a data scientist from Hong Kong. She serves as the chief commercial officer and leads sales alongside go-to-market strategies.

The team trained their AI models on extensive real-world data. They utilized eight years of approved drawing sets from Dram’s personal firm, which continues to operate today.

The company’s first-generation software generates standard architectural construction documents. Pricing ranges between $3,200 and $8,500 per month depending on the selected plan tier. Custom enterprise pricing options are also available for larger clients.

The upcoming second-generation release provides substantial capability upgrades. Users can initiate work using a basic project description or raw hand sketch. The software then generates complete blueprint sets across all major disciplines simultaneously.

This includes structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, interior design, and core architecture elements. Version 2 enables live edits and real-time design adjustments. Any single modification automatically updates the entire project set while validating work against local building codes.

Select early-stage customers are already testing this second iteration. Dram confirmed the software will officially open to the general public this week. Meanwhile, the startup is already developing a third version. That future update will introduce integrated structural analysis and automated electrical panel layout capabilities.

The co-founders emphasize that their platform does not replace licensed human professionals. Certified architects and engineers must still inspect the final documents. They stamp and seal the paperwork prior to municipal permit submission. Critical professional judgment remains firmly in human hands.

Blueprints AI is actively pursuing two primary target audiences with its updated toolset. The first group includes professional architecture, engineering, and design agencies. The second group consists of real estate developers and property owners. The business model currently relies on recurring software subscriptions. However, the company may introduce flat single-project pricing models in the future.
