Google just hit a major milestone. CEO Sundar Pichai shared the news directly. He announced it on X. According to Pichai, the Gemini app has become one of Google’s fastest-growing products. It recently crossed 1 billion monthly active users. Pichai also noted something else. Gemini is now the 14th Google product to reach that same 1 billion mark.
This growth puts Gemini in rare company. It’s now keeping pace with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. That app hit the same 1 billion monthly user milestone back in June.
Google has been working steadily to integrate Gemini everywhere. That includes Search. It includes Workspace. It also includes Android and Google’s standalone Gemini app. One integration in particular has performed especially well.
Google’s AI Mode in Search has seen major success. It’s already surpassed 1 billion monthly active users globally. It’s worth noting an important distinction, though. Today’s figure refers specifically to the standalone Gemini app. It doesn’t include AI users coming through other channels, like Search.

Google hasn’t slowed down on new releases, either. The company continues rolling out new models and features regularly. That includes Gemini 3.5 Flash. According to Google, this model was built with a specific focus. It’s designed to improve coding performance. It’s also built to strengthen autonomous AI agent tasks.
Google also shared some interesting usage data. According to the company, 63% of Gemini users talk directly to the assistant using its voice feature. That’s a significant majority. On top of that, Gemini’s image generation numbers are substantial. The app now generates more than 150 million images every single day, according to Google’s own figures.
Gemini’s growth isn’t confined to Google’s own ecosystem, either. The company shared numbers specifically for iOS. According to Google, Gemini now has more than 100 million active users on Apple’s platform alone.

This milestone lands at a notable moment for Google. It comes shortly after the company’s Q2 2026 earnings call. During that call, Google celebrated another strong number. At the time, the company reported more than 950 million monthly users for Gemini.
Daily active users had also tripled over the past year. This new announcement also arrives just ahead of Google’s Made by Google event. At that event, the company is expected to unveil more Gemini-powered features. Those features are expected to roll out across Pixel devices.
