Instagram could soon make it easier for users to control what appears in their feeds.
The company is testing new ways to access its Your Algorithm feature. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri recently shared a preview of these changes in a video.
The feature first launched last year. It lets people tell Instagram what they enjoy watching and what they want to avoid. Since then, Instagram has slowly expanded it across the app.
Now, the company wants to make it a much bigger part of the experience.
“We want to evolve Your Algorithm from a setting to something that feels central to your experience on Instagram,” Mosseri said.
He also reminded users that everything shown is still an experiment.
“Some of this is testing now, some is coming soon, and some might not work,” he explained.

New Ways to Adjust Recommendations
One test shows a new shortcut inside the main feed.
Instead of opening Settings, users could simply pull down on the feed. That action would open the Your Algorithm menu. From there, they could quickly update their preferences.
Instagram is testing something similar for Reels.
In one example, swiping up after watching a Reel opens a small prompt. It asks whether users want more content like that video.
Another idea is even simpler.
Instagram may add buttons below every Reel. Users could tap them to say they want more videos like this—or fewer.
The company hopes these changes will make feedback faster and easier.
More Control Over What You See
Instagram already uses your likes, comments, shares, and watch time to recommend content.
The new tools would give users another way to guide those recommendations.
Instead of waiting for the algorithm to learn over time, people could tell Instagram exactly what interests them.
If testing goes well, these features could appear in a future update.

Users Want Something Else
Many people welcomed the extra controls. Others had a different request. The most-liked comments all shared the same message.
Users want Instagram to show more posts from the people they already follow.
One comment summed it up clearly:
“We just want our algorithm to show the people we follow.”
That request has become common in recent years. Many users feel Instagram recommends too much content from strangers and not enough from friends, family, and favorite creators.
Instagram hasn’t said when these new tools will roll out. The company says testing is still underway, and some ideas may never become permanent features.
