OpenAI is preparing a major update to ChatGPT. The goal is to turn it into a superapp that combines coding tools, AI agents, and third-party services on a single platform. The shift moves ChatGPT beyond a chatbot role into a broader work system.
The new experience is expected to roll out on web and mobile apps in the coming weeks. The redesign puts more focus on Codex, OpenAI’s coding tool. It also introduces AI agents that can handle multi-step tasks with more independence.
Superapp Direction
OpenAI plans to bring multiple tools into a single interface. Users will move between chat, coding, image generation, automation, and partner apps inside the same system. The aim is to reduce the need for separate apps for different tasks.
The company also plans a longer shift in how users interact with ChatGPT. Future models may rely less on detailed prompts. The system is expected to understand intent from context inside the app.

Desktop Integration Plan
OpenAI has also worked on a desktop version that combines ChatGPT, Codex, and its Atlas browser. The effort is led by Fidji Simo with input from Greg Brockman. The focus is a single product experience instead of separate tools across platforms.
IPO Preparation
The ChatGPT overhaul links with OpenAI’s move toward a public listing. The company is preparing confidential IPO filings. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are involved in the process.
A filing could allow a listing as early as September. The timeline is not fixed. Sam Altman has said timing depends on market conditions and company readiness.
Codex and AI Agents Focus
The redesign highlights coding, image generation, and agent workflows. OpenAI also plans to add partner services like Canva and Booking Holdings. These additions let users complete more tasks inside ChatGPT.
The company also targets stronger enterprise growth. Business users bring higher revenue than consumer users. OpenAI wants to expand its position in that market.

Enterprise Expansion
OpenAI is adjusting its structure to serve business customers more directly. The company faces competition from Anthropic in coding and enterprise AI tools.
ChatGPT now has around 900 million weekly users. OpenAI plans to use that base to grow paid tools and business features.
